We set off on the morning drive out of the bustling city of Hanoi at 8.00 AM. It takes us about 2 hours driving to Tam Dao Mountain range where the Zen Monastery is situated. Truc Lam Tay Thien Zen Monastery, which together with a Zen Monastery in Da Lat and one at Quang Ninh Provinces’s Yen Tu Mountain, is one of the three largest monasteries in Vietnam. The monastery includes a library, a museum, a meditation house, guesthouses and a mess hall serving vegetarian food for visitors. Built in 2005 on the ruins of an ancient pagoda called Thien An Thien Tu, the Truc Lam Tay Thien Zen Monastery sits on the mountain’s peak and offers a stunning view of several other temples and pagodas scattered along the pine-decorated hills. On arrival, we take a walk around the monastery to visit the complex and enjoy the beautiful scenery over the plain. This will be followed by a short transfer to an electrical car station where we get a smooth ride along the mountain sides to the cable car station. From here, the cable car ride will definitely offer us the stunning view of green Tam Dao National Park. After strolling around to visit the temple of the National Mother, Tay Thien Pagoda, Mountain God temple and learning about the local religious practice, a Vietnamese lunch will be served at a nice restaurant. In the afternoon, we take the cable car back down and drive on backroads to Bac Binh Commune, where we will check in a homestay of a local family. After refreshing and rest, we will stroll around the neighborhood and learn how the locals plan mulberry and raise silkworms. Dinner and overnight at a home-stay.
